Installed, sound slab assumed. The UK ranges draw on MyBuilder’s epoxy floor cost guide, Checkatrade’s resin flooring guide, and independent installers. The flake range averages MyBuilder, Atelier Resin, and Resin-Tec (checked October 13, 2026). What adds to the base rate
Choosing a Floor condition other than “good, clean concrete” adds a per-m² amount. UK Construction Blog’s cost guide discusses how preparation affects the installed price (checked August 25, 2026):

What actually drives the price
- Surface preparation. Grinding, crack repair, and removal of an old coating can be substantial separate lines in an installed quote.
- Damp. Moisture moving through a slab can interfere with adhesion. On an older or ground-bearing slab, ask what testing and limits the specified coating requires before assuming a membrane is needed.
- System build. Self-levelling and 100% solids go on far thicker than a water-based thin-film — more material, more cost, more durability.
- Access. A tight single garage with lots of edges costs more per m² than an open workshop.
- Region. Labour and material prices vary. The location-adjusted estimate uses a sourced general construction-cost proxy for supported London and UK regions; it is not postcode-level epoxy contractor pricing.
Ways to keep the cost down
- Coat a slab while it’s clean and new, before oil, cracks, and an old sealer make prep expensive.
- Choose flake or self-levelling over metallic if you want durability rather than a feature floor.
- Clear the space completely and confirm the slab is dry (a simple hygrometer test) so the installer only prices the coating.
- Ask each installer for an itemised quote so you can compare the same preparation and coating scope.
DIY vs professional
A DIY kit and a professional installation are rarely the same scope. Compare surface preparation, repairs, damp testing, primer, coating thickness, topcoat, labour, VAT, and warranty before comparing totals. This calculator estimates the professionally installed figure, not a materials-only kit.
Worked planning scenario
Take an illustrative 16 m² garage with a failing old floor coating. A flake system at £60–£88.33/m² plus £15–£40/m² for coating removal and 10% contingency produces a planning range of about £1,320–£2,259. This is not a contractor quote and the calculator does not automatically apply a minimum job charge. Ask installers whether removal, preparation, VAT, and any minimum charge are included before comparing their totals.

Check whether those items are included in each installer quote.
Does a quoted epoxy flooring price include VAT?
It depends on the installer. Always confirm whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive of VAT before comparing contractors — a 20% difference is easy to miss.
